Lizzie, Harry & Camilla....

Q. What do Elizabeth Bennet, Harry Potter & Camilla Parker-Bowles have in common?

A. They all have a connection with a tiny, picturesque village called Lacock, a few miles away from the M.H. I was driving to Chippenham this morning, a positively balmy day compared to the freezing weather recently and thought I might just stop and give you a tour of some of the interesting houses in the village. I just love entrances & doorways - particularly speculating about what and who might be behind the door! (Is that 'speculating' or 'nosey'??!!...)

This is the doorway to a lovely old pub called 'The Sign of the Angel' - there's that angel thing again!

You could just imagine the carriage bearing Lizzie and her sisters pulling up and dropping them off for a spot of dancing.....

If you have seen the BBC production of Pride & Prejudice, you will recognise this as the village of Meryton....no soldiers hanging around today (or many tourists, unusually!)

13th century Lacock Abbey is now looked after by the National Trust and was the setting for many of the interior shots of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films....

Oh yes, Camilla.... She has a house here too.......s

  2. Isn't Lacock beautiful. A typical English village. I love the front doors, especially the pub. Painted in what looks like one of my favourite Farrow and Ball colours, with the most gorgeous wreath on the front door.
You certainly live in a beautiful part of the country, Susie. XXXX

  4. Hi Rita, Jackie & Jeanne - glad you enjoyed the tour! I did think about knocking on Camilla's door and asking if I could photograph her Xmas decorations for our deliberation but I was rushing to the printers so....maybe next time!!!
Jeanne - I'm happy that you feel that way - I get the feeling you are a 'glass half full' person and you will always be looking for the positive in your new surroundings - a recipe for expat success! Love Susie x
